Nongnghiep.vn: Bringing agricultural products in the Mekong Delta to a digital platform
On May 28, in Can Tho City, the Department of Agricultural Products Processing and Market Development (MARD) coordinated with the Trade and Investment Promotion Center (Vietnam Cooperative Alliance) and Grab Viet Nam. Nam organized a seminar to disseminate business knowledge and skills on “digital platforms” for more than 100 agricultural cooperatives in the Mekong Delta region.
At the workshop, the leader of Nhon Nghia longan cooperative, Phong Dien district, Can Tho city said that the cooperative is developing a large-scale model of longan growing in the city, with an average annual output of 350-400 tons. The cooperative's products are produced according to VietGAP process, but the output faces many difficulties.
“Selling on the "digital platform", the cooperative's products will have conditions to reach more customers and stronger output. Currently, the cooperative mainly sells goods through traders, so the output is not stable”, said Mr. Pham Van Le, director of the cooperative, who came to the training session with the desire to gain some more knowledge and try to access the digital platform. by Grab Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Son Ha, Director of Long Tuyen Cooperative in Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city also informed that the unit is preparing to sign a cooperation agreement with enterprises providing digital platforms to supply agricultural products, vegetables and fruits. , fruits of all kinds. Sharing about the journey to approach the digital platform for business, Mr. Ha considers it very useful when products are distributed directly to consumers in a short time. Therefore, agricultural products can keep their freshness and quality.
“Currently, we supply agricultural products mainly to supermarkets and schools, but we do not have a direct distribution channel for agricultural products to consumers. Through the digital platform, businesses providing the platform already have a large enough logistics system to deliver goods, and the cooperative can save huge transportation costs. Many small orders, but grouped together into a large quantity, the value will sometimes increase even higher," said Mr. Ha.
According to information from the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, there are more than 25,000 cooperatives nationwide, including over 17,000 agricultural cooperatives. Digital transformation is an inevitable and appropriate trend in the context that the whole country is moving towards an agricultural economy and of course cooperatives and farmers are the focus that cannot be left out.
Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, director of the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development, said: “In order to promote the domestic market, it is necessary to determine the state of the crop and the falling point of the market. Thereby, creating a basis for the agricultural sector to carefully review the output and volume of each season, each product and each different geographical area as well as key farming areas.

According to Mr. Toan, the agricultural sector is currently undergoing a strong digital transformation under the direction of the Government and farmers play a central role in any transformation. He assessed that the digital transformation, specifically through digital platforms for farmers to access the market, is an effective method for farmers to master the market space as well as to master technology. At the same time, consumers also have more choices in consuming agricultural products.
"Everyone moves together and in which the farmer is in the first position, the central position and that is the position that we need to pay the most attention to", Mr. Toan emphasized. According to the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development, the Mekong Delta is a key area, so the coordination with relevant agencies to train necessary skills when putting goods on digital platform applications, Hand-holding work for cooperatives and farmers, so that everyone understands and masters the skills is very necessary.
“It can't be said that exporting through the 'digital platform' has limited meaning, it must be said that there is an extremely large space for all businesses to have the same opportunity as long as we ensure the standards. We must have a mastery of skills and especially a database system in terms of the market for each business, "said Toan.
Le Thi Thanh Hong, Development and Strategy Director of Grabmart (Grab Vietnam) said: “Digital platform is not easy for farmers to connect with users quickly and conveniently. Farmers currently do not have much experience and market knowledge to develop on digital platforms and e-commerce platforms. Therefore, training sessions like this are an opportunity for farmers to get closer to the digital platform and improve the value of agricultural products.”
Together with related units, Grab Vietnam has launched many communication programs to promote the projects of farmers' products to users in a better way. Typically, the 2022 Summer Fruit Festival, the program to introduce regional specialties (Ri6 durian, Hoa Loc sand mango, Luc Ngan lychee, Dak Lak avocado...). Programs that actively contribute to the supply chain of agricultural products for consumers, support cooperatives and the agricultural industry to transform digitally, and help stakeholders benefit from the digital economy.
This is an activity within the framework of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the implementation of the program
The cooperation program to support digital transformation and connect agricultural product consumption for small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the agricultural sector in Vietnam, was signed by the Department of Enterprise Development (Ministry of Planning and Investment). Planning and Investment), Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development Department (MARD), Trade and Investment Promotion Center (Vietnam Cooperative Alliance) and Grab Vietnam in June 2021 .
